The authorized battle between the music govt David Geffen and the crypto-magnate Justin Solar over a $78.4m Alberto Giacometti sculpture took a brand new flip this week when Geffen filed a countersuit, drawing a rebuke from Solar’s attorneys.
The sculpture in query, Le Nez (1947), which Solar bought for $78.4 million at a 2021 Sotheby’s sale in New York. In a press release to Artnet on 17 April a lawyer for Solar, William Charron, characterised Geffen’s allegations as “extraordinarily misguided”. “It’s extremely unwise for Mr Geffen to have staked his case on his proclaimed innocence of Sydney Xiong,” Charron acknowledged. “Ms Xiong confessed to her theft, she was arrested in China and is in detention in China at the moment.“ He added: “Extra very compelling particulars will come out by means of the fullness of this litigation.”
